A quiet garden moment — snowdrops in bloom
A QUIET BEGINNING WHEN YOU'RE READY

A small beginning, without pressure.

I've always been drawn to the snowdrop flower. It grows quietly, often when its environment still feels a bit stuck or uncertain. Not as a big turning point — just as a small, quiet beginning.

That's what I try to offer through Snowdrop Therapy. A place where you can take things as they are, and begin from there. My approach is grounded in understanding, compassion, and accountability, with a focus on helping you gently unpack your thoughts, emotions, and patterns.

Upasana Gurung

A gentle idea of what to expect.

Reaching out can feel like a big step. Here's what the first few moments look like, so nothing has to be a surprise.

01

Reach out

Send an email, book online, or fill in the form. No detailed story needed — a sentence is plenty.

02

Free 15-minute chat

A short, no-pressure call to get a sense of each other and see if it feels like a good fit. You can ask anything.

03

First full session

We'll talk about what's bringing you here, what you'd like from therapy, and begin at a pace that feels right.

04

Ongoing support

Sessions are usually fortnightly to begin with. There's no fixed timeline — we check in together on what's working.

Three kinds of space, shaped around you.

Individual Therapy

A dedicated space to reflect on your thoughts, emotions, and experiences, at a pace that feels comfortable and supported.

Trauma Therapy

Centred on understanding and gently processing trauma, including religious and childhood trauma, with care, steadiness, and respect for your pace.

Clinical Supervision

Reflective, relational supervision grounded in strong ethical practice — a space to think openly about your work, including for social workers on the path to AMHSW.

A quiet moment of reflection

Evidence-based tools, gently applied.

Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. Here are the approaches I draw from, chosen together based on what fits you best.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing — a structured method for working through distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming and more integrated over time.

DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy — focuses on building steadiness with emotions, navigating relationships, and staying grounded during times of distress.

Somatic & Expressive

Invites awareness of the body and creative expression as ways of understanding and processing experiences that may be hard to put into words.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy — supports you to notice patterns in thinking and behaviour, and to explore different ways of responding.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy — encourages a different relationship with thoughts and feelings, while helping you move towards what matters most to you.

Support available through many paths.

What's therapy to me?

A thought from the person behind Snowdrop Therapy.

Upasana Gurung

Upasana Gurung pronounced Oo-parsh-na

Master of Social Work (MSW) Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW)

I launched Snowdrop Therapy to offer something steady. A space where support feels consistent, thoughtful, and genuinely useful in everyday life.

Alongside this sits experience across both youth and adult mental health settings, including within specialised programs supporting young people who need a little more care and coordination around them.

Over time, my journey has included:

  • Leading youth mental health programs
  • Stepping into Clinical Manager positions
  • Working as a Lead Clinician supporting people with more complex and layered experiences

These roles haven't just been about one-to-one support. They've involved guiding teams, working closely with families, and coordinating care alongside other professionals. It's work that sits both in the therapy room and around it. What this means in practice is that support is not only compassionate, but also steady, considered, and shaped by real-world experience.

Therapy is not only for moments of crisis. You don't need to be at a breaking point to begin. It can be a space for reflection, understanding, and growth — rather than judgement, or the sense that something about you needs to be fixed.

Making a referral.

Snowdrop Therapy welcomes referrals for children, young people, and adults. Referrals are welcome from GPs, support coordinators, and allied health professionals.

Who I work with

I work with individuals across a range of experiences, including:

  • Anxiety and unpacking emotions
  • Neurodiversity
  • Trauma, including childhood and religious trauma
  • Adjustment, stress, and life transitions
  • Support with everyday wellbeing

Funding options

Sessions are available through:

  • Medicare (Better Access)
  • NDIS (self-managed and plan-managed)
  • DVA
  • Private referrals

How to refer

Referrals can be sent via email. A brief referral can include:

  • Client name and contact details
  • Relevant background information
  • Funding details (e.g. MHTP, NDIS, DVA)
  • Practitioner's electronic signature

What happens next?

Referrals are reviewed as they come through. If it feels like the right fit, the client will be contacted directly to arrange a first appointment — or gently guided towards other options wherever possible.

Clients are also welcome to get in touch directly and book through the website.

Good things to know.

Is what I share kept private?

Yes. Everything you share is confidential, and your notes are stored securely. There are a small number of situations where confidentiality has limits — for example, if there's a serious risk of harm to you or someone else. These limits are explained clearly in your first session so there are no surprises.

How long will I need therapy for?

There's no set number of sessions. Some people come for a few weeks to work on something specific, others stay longer for deeper or more ongoing support. We check in together regularly about what's helpful — you're never locked in.

What if it doesn't feel like the right fit?

Finding the right therapist matters, and it's absolutely okay if we're not the match. You can say so directly, or quietly — no hard feelings. I'd rather help point you toward someone who feels like a better fit than have you continue out of politeness.

Do I need a GP referral to claim Medicare?

Yes — to receive Medicare rebates under the Better Access scheme, you'll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. They can refer you to an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), which is how I'm registered. If you're unsure how to ask your GP, just reach out and I can help.

How do online sessions work?

Sessions run over Halaxy Telehealth, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or FaceTime — whichever you're most comfortable with. A link is sent to you ahead of time. All you need is a quiet, private space, a decent internet connection, and something to sit on. No fancy setup required.

Can I book for my child?

Yes. I work with children, young people, and adults. For younger clients, a parent or guardian is usually involved in the booking process and in planning support, and we'll talk through what that looks like together depending on your child's age and needs.
